If you ever find yourself in a pinch for maple syrup, but your shelf is bare; here's a quick substitute that can be made with stuff you probably have on hand already. You can drizzle this syrup on pancakes, hot cereal, sweet potatoes, and whatever else you can think of...
Ingredients:
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup water
1 teaspoon maple extract
Directions:
In a saucepan, combine brown sugar and water. Stir frequently, dissolve sugars and bring to a boil. Lower temperature and simmer for at least 5 minutes. Let cool and stir in maple extract. Serve warm. Store covered in the refrigerator.
What a neat in a pinch substitute for maple syrup.
