The Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #126

Happy Farmgirl Friday!
golden concord grape harvest 2012
I trust you had a busy week with harvest season in full swing.  I have read so many wonderful canning tutorials this week, and have pinned some great hot and cold process soap recipes too.  Apple season is just about to begin in my hometown,  I will be traveling through there next month to get a few boxes of apples to process for our winter table.

Around here things have been unusual.  The weather has been making leaps from one extreme to the next. Yesterday afternoon we hit a high of about 97 degrees, but today is chilly and breezy.  The weatherman reports that we should expect rain tonight and snow at 8,000 ft.  Thanks goodness we are well below that elevation in the foothills.

The leaves have been changing and falling here for more than a month due to the intense heat and prolonged drought this area has been facing, locals tell me that this is the fourth year in a row of record low rainfall, roughly half of what this area needs to sustain the woodlands.

I put my garden to bed a month ago, and have a layer of goat and chicken manure on top of it just waiting for the winter rains, so a fluke storm will do me so much good.

Our new solar project is finally ready for construction.  The project manager came by yesterday to mark the ground for trenching the electric cable to the main box.

The panels should be on the roof in under a month if the county can keep up with their inspection schedule. If all goes well we should be getting 100% of our electricity from the sun by January 2014.  I am really excited.

Things have been going very well in the barnyard this week.  I began milking my dairy goat Lily 1x daily, instead of twice a day.  I hope to slowly dry her off and give her body a rest before breeding her around December.  I am new to dairy goats so every new experience is a learning experience for me.  I sure am enjoying the goats.  Such sweethearts.

I wonder what everybody else has been up to this week???  Let's go check it out.
