Howdy farmgirls and boys!
I hope your week was busy and productive. I've been keeping busy in the yard. I completed hive inspections inside all of my hives. I planted more tomato plants. I got my honey bee garden started, and I transplanted a flat of heirloom tomatoes and herbs for an upcoming food swap. I only have two more master gardening classes to go until I'm done.
In the garage I taught myself how to use the brad nailing gun and put together some of my own frames for the beehives. My BFF Michelle really saved my bacon when she loaned me her husband's tool for hammering t-posts into the garden. She lent me her hands too, and she's still got fingers. Thanks Michelle. Tomorrow we're expecting a late freeze overnight so I won't be stringing my sisal rope trellis for the tomatoes this weekend. The plants will have to be covered up again tomorrow night...
On a new front, I have been investigating miniature dairy goats. I am hoping to add a few little Nigerian Dwarf does to my happy little family this Fall. Yesterday, I observed a goat kid disbudding procedure with a disbudding iron. Sunday I traveled with a friend to pick up her new doe. I like that herd and am hoping to get atleast one of my does from there. All that's left to do is prepare a home for the does, settle on a diet, and make the purchase. I am thinking about taking a gamble and purchasing kids from good lines. I hope to learn how to show them eventually and I think it may be best to start with babies to establish a rapport. I am still not certain, but that's how I'm leaning right now. I'll know more after I attend my first dairy goat show in a few weeks.
I have collected a few images from the camera this week to share. I hope you enjoy them and share a post about what YOU are up to around your home too. Have a great weekend and an even better week ahead.
