12 days of Christmas Carols

     Christmas is only days away. To celebrate, I'm posting twelve days of Christmas Carols. Please enjoy this excerpt from Wikipedia that explains the origins of today's song Angels we Have Heard on High: "The song commemorates the story of the birth of Jesus Christ found in the Gospel of Luke, in which shepherds outside Bethlehem encounter a multitude of angels singing and praising the newborn child."

"Angels We Have Heard on High"

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains

(chorus) Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song?

(chorus) Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Come to Bethlehem and see
Him Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.

(chorus) Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

See Him in a manger laid
Jesus Lord of heaven and earth;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
With us sing our Savior's birth.

(chorus) Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

  2. One of my favorites! I too love the carols: at church, in the car, in shops. I never tire of them.

  3. Hi Candy and Kathy! I hope you're both doing great and keeping warm. One of my fondest childhood memories is the memory of attending Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve with my paternal Grandmother. It was fantastic.
